“First Laboratory Experience for undergraduate students” and “Graduate Student Research Internships at International Research Laboratories”  

The EELISA Research and Education Collaboration Plan aims to provide a science and engineering gateway for research, collaboration, teaching, learning, sharing of resources, publishing of data, and building EELISA communities. In line with these goals, EELISA’s Collaboration of Research and Education Plan covers the interaction of research, education and innovation elements.

Research focus describes the mechanisms that integrate research methodologies and results into the educational system. Research results are based on a multi-disciplinary, dynamic and research-based approach with the participation of external partners, through reinforcing information and method transactions. Thus, it includes activities such as “First Laboratory Experience for undergraduate students” to facilitate a fruitful collaboration among EELISA research groups and upscale synergies with partners and “Graduate Student Research Internships at International Research Laboratories”

The First Laboratory Experience for undergraduate students has two steps. While the first step includes a preliminary remote work phase that involves pre-research and theoretical work, the second step is a laboratory visit, which contains practical, hands-on work at the laboratory premises for a period of two weeks.

Graduate Student Research Internships at International Research Laboratories aims at another level of mobility and exposure to various research infrastructure for postgraduate students. The objective is to encourage students to join existing research project teams in research laboratories of EELISA members or R&D laboratories of companies.

The benefits for joining existing research project teams as an intern or volunteer at research laboratories or company R&D laboratories are:

·         Opportunity to carry out research internships for postgraduate students in an international research laboratory.

·         First international laboratory experience and opportunity to participate in upcoming meetings and events.

·         Opportunity for postgraduate students to experience a different education and research infrastructure.

·         Collecting regulatory requirements to prepare a procedural framework specifying

    o    the basic requirements such as the time, duration, learning outcomes and equivalent credits.

    o    the requirements for the successful completion of research internships.

    o    the process for identification, selection, and performance evaluation of interns and internships.

    o    the regional legal aspects such as visa, work permit, insurance, etc.

Faculty advisors and associate advisors will be selected first at a university level then at the companies. Internships are expected to being at the second year of the pilot phase.
